About
A native of Washington, D.C., X’avier Alexander is an American designer whose design ethos is rooted in the narrative. His background in painting has shaped his relationship to fashion, viewing both as mediums for conveying nonverbal concepts. His work blends technical precision with artistic expression, allowing individuals to engage with clothing in a distinct and meaningful way.
X’avier earned his Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where he hones his skills in garment construction, textile innovation, and conceptual design. His education laid the foundation for his unique approach to fashion-blending functionality with narrative-driven aesthetics.
X’avier’s design career includes working as a technical design intern at Nike, where he utilized 3D design technology to develop forward-thinking apparel concepts for the brand’s Catalyst team, responsible for collaborations with Stussy, Off-White, and other industry leaders. His innovative approach earned him recognition as a 2023 CFDA Design Scholar, solidifying his place as a rising voice in contemporary fashion.
In 2024 he launched LUMIÉRE, a brand that harmonizes the essence of Black storytelling with modular/transformative clothing. Drawing from his cultural background, life experiences, and daily observations, he uses volume, shape and graphic elements to craft wearable art pieces that challenge traditional fashion narratives. His design philosophy also incorporates figurative ideologies such as metaphors, symbolism, and the multiplicity of meanings, bringing deeper layers to his work.
